The month of Ramadhan is considered as one of the most important months of the Hijrah calendar to the muslims across the globe not only due to fasting, but also it is the month where the first pages of the Al-Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad .

  • “The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey – then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.”[2:185]

The event is known as Nuzul Al-Quran. It is one of the most important historical events in the Prophet Muhammad  ﷺ ‘s life as the holy book Quran was revealed in stages. The event occured on the night of Jumaat (Friday) on 17th day of Ramadhan at the 41st year of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday when he was performing ibadah in Gua Hira’ . The first verses came via Angel Jibril is Surah Al-Alaq verses one to five.

In literal terms, Nuzul means going down to the bottom from above and the Al-Quran means a set of readings or a collection. Inside the Quran, there is a collection of sentences explaining about everything thats goes from the religion to science. The Quran is a miracle from Allah as it shows there are no flaws as well as issues that are left behind in the holy book Quran.

To remember and celebrate Nuzul Al-Quran as the revelation of verses from the Quran is important as the holy book is a guide for muslims all around the world.

The revelation also shows the proof of the existence of Allah and reading the Quran is a devotion to Allah. As muslims, we should always take the time read the Quran even if we are busy on our daily routine and use it as guide in this world. The event of Nuzul Al-Quran should provide a remembrance that we need to understand the verses in the Holy book.

We at Sutera would like to wish every muslims in Brunei and the whole world, Salaam Nuzul Al-Quran 1439H
