During the Ramadan season, many small business vendors will try to sell their food at the local markets known as the ‘Gerai Ramadan’. These markets are scattered all over the Sultanate, and in the Belait district, the most well-know market is located at the Tudung Saji Market, Kuala Belait. There are more vendors this time with over 100 stalls at the area.

The vendors set up their stalls as early as 1:30 PM and around 3 PM, visitors will make their way to the market for their ‘sungkai’ (Break-fast) needs. There are many varieties of food sold ranging from simple savoury finger foods like cucur to sweet desserts such as shaved ice.

We at Sutera made our way to the Gerai Ramadan Tudung Saji and picked out some of the unique dishes that can be found at the market place this year.
