Over 13,000 people joined in a national level of the Maulidur Rasul celebration at all four districts yesterday. Taman Haji Sir Omar Ali Saifuddien was filled with people as early as 6.00am, all dressed in their uniforms and colourful Baju Cara Melayu.
The theme this year is Tarbiyah Rasulullah Membawa Rahmat Dalam Berkeluarga, which translates to Lessons from the Messenger of Allah Bring Blessings to the Family. This emphasises that Muslims are encouraged to bring the lessons from the prophet and apply it to their daily lives, because it will bring Allah’s blessing that is the source of happiness.
Before the procession starts, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to a meet-and-greet session with 126 teams consisting of various Ministries, educational institutions, uniformed organisations, Mukim and Kampung Consultative Councils, the private organisations and NGOs. After the meet and greet, the Dikir Marhaban was performed by the Ministry of Education Dikir team, followed by the 21-gun salute.
The 2.3km procession was led by His Majesty and members of the royal family, followed by the teams and public, with banners being paraded and the chanting of the selawat towards Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to show their affection towards the prophet.
Every year, the procession shows the concept of unity within the community in the country as it is a tradition that symbolises the strong bond between the people and government.
While this celebration is a norm for people in Brunei, tourists found the ceremony fascinating and it was a new experience for them that shows the uniqueness of Islam in the country.
“It is unknown for us and it is culturally different from what we see in our country. Seeing everyone so happy on the day was interesting to watch because we do not have these kinds of events in our country,” said Samuel and Elyse, tourists from Canada.
In keeping with the theme of the celebration, the prophet’s character and way of life is worth emulating in the country and it helps promote good morals towards the individuals that helps in building a better life and family in world and afterlife.
