On Friday, 24th May 2019, Cuckoo International (B) Sdn. Bhd with the Cuckoo Care Foundation went to donate various basic necessities and food to Ernawati Said, a single mother living with five children in Kampong Pancha Delima.
“The Cuckoo Care Foundation is committed to assist those in need and hopefully the donation will help the family throughout Ramadhan and Hari Raya,” said Wong Kim Guan, the Managing Director of Cuckoo International Brunei.
Ernawati sells cakes for a living. Unfortunately, she has not been able to sell any this Ramadhan. The family of five lives in a small wooden storeroom after their house was knocked over by a tree back in 2015, and one of Ernawati’s children is currently in the hospital due to type one diabetes.
With her child suffering from diabetes, Cuckoo donated food to help with the disease such as brown rice. Other than that, they cooked some dishes for Ernawati using Cuckoo appliances to help the family to break their fast in the evening. Other items were also given such as toys and clothes from Cuckoo employees for the family.
Upon receiving the items, Ernawati said that she was eternally grateful for the donations as it will help them through the final days of the fasting month and early days of Hari Raya.
Cuckoo received the recommendation to give donations to Ernawati from the Village head of Kampong Pancha Delima and Anggerek Desa, Haji Zulkifli Haji Awang Ya’akub.
The South Korean company will be hoping to fund the Cuckoo Care Foundation through the selling of their appliances where a percentage of their sales will be going to the foundation to help do more of these activities.
The foundation is part of Cuckoo International Brunei’s Community Social Responsibility (CSR) where they give back to the community and environment through donations, educational activities and more. Other than that, Cuckoo aims to provide communities in Brunei with access to clean and healthy water through the “Share the Drops of Joy” initiative.
Thanks to the initiative, Cuckoo Care Foundation was able to donate water purifiers to mosques and community places such as Pusat Ehsan and Centre for Children with Special needs (KACA) while donating basic necessities to underprivileged families in Brunei.
