Since 2012, Brunei celebrated the National Family Day on every first Sunday of May as an effort to encourage families to spend their time with each other. This year in it’s seventh edition, it was celebrated on 6th May 2018 at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien with an open-crowd cycling event called Harmonious Family Cycling Recreation.
The Cycling event was lead by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien. The 11-kilometre route went through the major roads and blocks around the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The theme for this year is “My Loving Family, Glorious Country” – the same theme as last year’s celebration highlighting the importance of family bonding towards shaping a better society.
Other than the cycling event, there were various fun games and activities that were available for families to try out. These games were a great way for families to bring their children out and create a more harmonious feeling between each other in the family. These are aligned with the National Family Day aim of giving more awareness towards the importance of the family institution in shaping a country.
This year’s event was an eventful one with thousands of people flocking the capital to participate in the activities along with the ongoing Bandar Ku Ceria. We at Sutera, hopes that the initiative will go on to create a better atmosphere among the families in Brunei.
