More than 50 FIFA gamers of Brunei joined the ‘PS4 FIFA World Cup 2018” E-Sport tournament at the Indah Hall, Royal Brunei Recreational Club, that was held on the 12th and 13th May 2018.
The Russian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam along with the “Game On Business Management and Services”, Royal Brunei Recreational Club and The Collective Art Events” co-organised “World Cup Weekend in conjunction with the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia next month. The event featured an E-Sport tournament “PS4 FIFA World Cup 2018” and photo exhibition of “Russia – The Host Country of the 2018 FIFA World Cup as the main highlights of the weekend.
On the first day, the opening ceremony was held to launch the “World Cup Weekend”. Gracing the event as the Guest of Honour was His Excellency, Mr. Vladen Semivolos, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam.
“Within the framework of the World Cup Weekend, we are pleased to present the exhibition of Russia, the Host Country of the 2018 FIFA World Cup- hoping people will learn more about Russia. We hope that the Bruneian football fans will come to Russia to experience this celebration of sport and discover our beautiful country.” said His Excellency, Mr. Vladen Semivolos, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam in his opening remarks.
On the second day, vendors such as Rumah Gelato enlightened the event further by selling their products at RBRC. The tournament continues with the knockout stages which eventually lead to the finals. Md Habibullah bin Hj Adanan outlasted Mohd Ameruddin Shah Kamaluddin to clinch the 1st place in the tournament while Md Ridhwan Hj Md Mansor won 3rd place overall in the tournament. The 1st place winner gets to take home the Telstar 18 Official Match Ball while the 2nd place winner won a Fifa World Cup 2018 polo shirt and 3rd place winner won the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Plush Mascot. The three winners also won the Russian Matryoshka dolls and audio devices from Bang and Olufsen.
During the closing ceremony of the event, present as the guest of honour was Yang Berhormat (Retired) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, who presented the prizes to the winners of the e-sport tournament.
“We manage to achieve our target of more than 50 players in the tournament and we want to work with more embassies in Brunei for future collaboration – such as the Olympics games in 2020, so hopefully the Japanese embassy will like to collaborate with an event like this”, said Amar Agus Din, the founder of Game On Business Management and Services, in an exclusive interview with Sutera.
The “Russia -The Host Country of the 2018 FIFA World Cup” photo exhibition featured the history of Russia- Brunei relations, followed by a showcase of the host cities for the World Cup 2018 and the tournament stadiums with the main highlight being the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow boasting 81,000 seats. The exhibition also features traditional Russian handicrafts as well as the Russian mosques and Islamic history and heritage in Russia.
