The Brunei International Flower Show (BIFS) 2019 is a first-of-its-kind event that is held in conjunction with Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam’s 73rd birthday, who also officiated the event.

Held at the charming Rimba Garden Central with the theme Brunei in Bloom, the five-day long event is more than just a showcase of the local and international floriculture –  it promises to be packed with lots of fun-filled activities, workshops, and talks for people of all ages.

In a speech by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, BIFS is to be an annual event and is expected to grow into a prestigious event in the region, attracting not only tourists but also more local and international floriculturists.

Despite the variety of flowers available such as roses and hydrangeas, orchids seem to have dominated the scene of BIFS 2019. From the tiny yellow oncidium from Singapore to the bluest of China’s phalaenopsis orchids, you can also find other species of orchids such as the fragrant cattleya among others, creating a medley of colours.

The length of Rimba Garden Central also displayed various vendors such as Mumtaz Collection and their feature scarves, Astera Consultant with pieces of handmade “Monster Pot” pottery from Thailand, as well as Lunanid Co and their pin collection and accessories.

One corner of Rimba Garden Central was allocated for a mini art gallery, where blooming cut flowers that look like they sprouted from the very wall as part of Bloom Project Co.’s first-ever art installation. It displays freshly-cut and carefully-preserved flowers, glued to their painted canvases. Zakaria Omar Arts Foundation also joined in the show with floral artworks from their ‘HAWA (Women Only) Artists’ and a young autistic artist.

In another corner of the building, Fuel’d Restaurant and Catering puts on a table display of marvellous and appetising dishes infused with herbs that surround the dish.

Outside, on the Garden’s timber deck, Expression Music School conducted music performances formed by violinists, bassist, and a young talented pianist, while artists from Petals and Palettes Art Studio put on a live painting session.

Young enthusiastic children from Jigsaw Primary School and Sekolah Rendah Sinaut also joined in with their succulent arrangements and propagation techniques.

The event will be held until Sunday, 27th October 2019, from 8.00am to 9.00pm and invites members of the public to join in the fun. Competitions will also be held, calling photographers, fashion enthusiasts, and all other interested parties to join in the competitive excitement of the BIFS 2019.

BIFS 2019 is jointly organised by the Tourism Development Department and Agriculture and Agrifood Department of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, in collaboration with KN Nursery Sdn Bhd.
