The Tourism Development Department is inviting restaurants and hotels that are interested in participating in the Brunei Gastronomy Week to register by 31st January 2019.

A Chef’s Retreat Programme was recently held at Eco Ponies Garden in Lamunin to discuss the ideas of designing creative menus based on the main ingredient, which is turmeric.

Turmeric is a bright yellow spice that comes from the rhizome of a plant in the ginger family. It is available fresh, but is usually sold dried and ground, in powder form. Turmeric has anti-oxidant properties and is often a component of curry powder and is usually used on its own in many Bruneian dishes.

Brunei Gastronomy Week will be held for the third time from 23rd February to 10th March next year. The objective of the event is to celebrate Brunei and create an awareness on the Bruneian cuisine; to encourage more hotels and restaurants to serve the Bruneian cuisines in a more sophisticated way; to further improve on the taste and elevate the presentation of Bruneian dishes to be served as part of a fine dining experience or at receptions held within or outside the country; to provide a unique Bruneian gastronomical experience to visitors within or outside Brunei.

The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism will be collaborating with several hotels and restaurants in Brunei Darussalam including Airlines, Associations of Travel Agents, Brunei Association of Hotels, Hospitality Schools and other private sectors. The target audience consists of locals as well as international visitors who are currently in the country.
